We live in a world that seems to be becoming more chaotic every day and we, as the population that lives in this world are buying into the chaos and the drama of it all.
This drama has some real consequences in regards to our physical, spiritual and mental health which will become apparent to all of us in society later on down the track.
How do we stop buying into the drama and chaos? We become mindful of ourselves and the world around us. We become awake to the drama and conscious of our involvement in it and take the necessary steps to extricate ourselves from it.
So, with that in mind, what would be my mindfulness definition?
For me, mindfulness liberates me from the drama of the world and allows me to live my life at my pace, the way I want it to be while at the same time functioning as a productive human being in the world.
Mindfulness enables me to slow down in my pace, become more deliberate in my intent and more aware in my dealings with the world and the other people who live in it.
It allows me to be a better person, a better listener and a less stressed individual.
My physical health benefits from the extra time that I put into myself. I’m more aware of what I put into my body and how I move around in the world. I’m more aware of my body signals and do what I need to do to keep my body in optimal condition.
It’s the only body I have at the moment so I need to look after it.
My mental health benefits from the slower pace I put my life through. I can stop to smell the roses while not feeling guilty that I’m not moving fast enough or that I’m not being productive enough.
As well as being more aware of my physical body signals, I’m more aware of my mental signals as well. I can address stresses and issues as they arise much more effectively which in turn allows me to be the best person that I can be for myself and everyone else in my life.
My spiritual health also benefits from the nourishment I give myself through the actual act of mindfulness. I enhance the relationship I have with myself and others. I am more patient, tolerant and happier and can face the chaotic world with confidence that I will not be affected by it.
Mindfulness has quite literally saved my life.
Until next time, be still and enjoy the silence,
The Calm Life
